Maybe UNtouchables was the only label that presented official figures for their albums. Or maybe Un touchables was the only label who ahd a campeign running on the internet to support their artists to the awards and direct people to vote for them with links from their website. U cant blame the organisers or the winners if no one voted for the other artists. Indy Sagu and Guba Sandhu ain't gonna complain if they get awarded and why should they?
Same with this bootleg situation. If bootlegs are running better than original material, or if material by unsigned or dropped artists is getting more public and media attrention than official releases then they definately should be awarded somehow or in sum form (after all they do make music). Thats where artists like Trailblazers, Tigerstyle, Bally and Bhota Jagpal, Kray twins, Jay Dhabi and countless others we hear tunes from on radio and at gigs should get recognition.
I'm sure there is a place for everyone to fit into in the industry. And i'm sure the awards can be structured to accomodate these highly acclaimed artists be it worldwide phenomenons like Malkit Singh and Jazzy B or be it bootleggers like the Trailblazers and Tigerstyle.
Its different in the USA because you guys dont have the club culture or scene we have here in the UK. My cousins listen to the BBC programming to keep upto date with the latest desi music. And since these awards are UK AMAs, I dont think it should take into account the fan base from outside UK too much or the success of UK artists outside of the UK.
