Let me begin by saying the album of the year, possibly the decade has arrived. This is the album that will change the face of British Asian Urban Music FOREVER. For my fellow hip-hop heads on here, this is our "Illmatic", our "Ready To Die", our "All Eyez On Me", our "Enter the Wu-Tang"-. Or whatever you consider to be the album that revolutionized its industry-
The group is Swami.. the album "DesiROCK". With three members, DJ Swami, MC Sarpanch, and blazin' hot new rapper S-Endz, each brings something unique to the table, and the fusion of these elements with blindingly hot Punjabi vocals from the likes of Lehmber Hussainpuri, Master Rakesh, and Jagz of DSI, creates a sound, that, as paradoxical as it might sound, is rooted in the future.
But with no further ado, lets get stuck into the review!
--------------------
Track 1 - "DesiRock"
Vocals - Lehmber Hussainpuri, Taz
MC's - Sarpanch
Do I really need to say anything about the awesomeness of this tune? HEAVY! "harassment charges, when we barge in"!!!! this song is JUST TOO SICK-hard hitting, powerful, dance-floor anthem!!!! DESI ROCK!!!!!
----------------------
Track 2 - "Move"
Vocals - Master Rakesh, Errol Reid
MC's - S-Endz
The most commercial sounding track on the album, but don't worry, this ain't no sugary sweet tune by any standard.. Master Rakesh kills it with the vocals, and there is a very slick hook by former China Black frontman Errol Reid.
The verses by S-Endz are incredible, two 8 bar verses, explaining how "girl I won't be here when the smoke clears, if your down follow me, if not, then disappear!"
---------------------
Track 3 - "Challa II"
Vocals - Lehmber Hussainpuri
MC's - Sarpanch
A slower, bass heavy hiphop tune, with some very political lyrics by Sarpanch, something which is good to hear, it gets boring to hear MCs chatting about their ice and cars all the time, but here Sarpanch is very outspoken about issue such as the BNP, and it's leader Nick Griffin, and the Handsworth riots. Great vocals from Lehmber.
-----------------------
Track 4 - "Don't Hold Back"
Vocals - Jagz of DSI
MC's - S-Endz & Sarpanch
Murderous tune!!! Jagz proving why he is the best Punjabi singer from the UK, and S-Endz killing it with a SUPREME unique flow that even American rappers would be shocked by! Sarpanch;s verses are good too, but S-Endz really steals the show here-. "Step back, yes S be killin em!!!!"
----------------------
Track 5 - "Hooked and Addicted"
Vocals - Jagz of DSI
MC's - S-Endz & Sarpanch
Oh my god!!!!!!! This could well be the most hard hitting hip hop tune I've ever heard. This track is basically S-Endz's track, he has an intro, 2 verses, an outro and shoutouts at the end, while Sarpanch only has one verse in the middle, and a bit of talking at the end.
S-Endz is SOOOOO HEAVY on this track!!!! "Destroy ya rep, then hit you with a curse, ya girls addicted to me like truth hurts, and im hooked, I aint looking for no quick fix, just the rush I get everytime I RIP THIS!"
If you only get obsessed with one track this year, it needs to be this one!!
------------------
Track 6 - "Turn It Up"
Vocals - Indian X
MC's Sarpanch
A sick track , the drumbeat is hypnotizing, it just stays stuck in my mind- Whoever Indian X is, he's a great singer. No rap verses on this, just 2 different rap hooks from Sarpanch which alternate.
"Turn It Up if your proud to be brown-. DesiROCK rinsing in your town"!!!
--------------------
Track 7 - Bust Da Mic
Vocals - None
MC's - Sarpanch
Some of you might have heard this track on Adil Ray's show on the Asian Network. No Punjabi vocals on this one, just a sick hiphop beat, and it's a solo Sarpanch tune. Very catchy hook "We bust da mic all night, keep the flows tight yeh we doing it right" and some hilarious verses from Sarpanch, detailing the various girls he has been with! Great tune, although I think S-Endz should at least have had one verse on it.
--------------------
Track 8 - "Hear Dis"
Vocals - Indian X
MC's - S-Endz & Sarpanch
A wicked track which has a ragga dancehall kinda vibe to it. Not sure of the identity of the person singing the English hook, could it be the mysterious DJ Swami himself? 2 GREAT verses from the new NUMBER 1 MC around, S-Endz.
"S-Endz, scratched into the walls of my cell, cell opposite, dudes tryin to kill himself, so whats this im in jail and im laughing like a mad man, the militant, bad man from the bad lands."
Also a good verse from Sarpanch "big Punjabi man I drink my whiskey neat!"
,although again S-Endz steals the show..
----------------------
Track 9 - "Throw Em Up"
Vocals - Jagz of DSI
MC's - S-Endz
As I approached listening to the end of this album, I didn't think it was possible that there could be a harder-hitting track than "DesiRock" or "Hooked And Addicted". Well guess what? Throw Em Up is absolutely mindblowingly earthshatteringly floorstompingly HARDCORE!!!!! This is largely due to the electric guitars on the track, and the supreme bassline also. S-Endz rips it up once again (this guy is A GENIUS) and I was literally chanting along with the adlibs to the incredibly sick hook everytime it came on, shouting "THROW EM UP! THROW EM UP! BLAZE IT UP!" along with S-Endz, and, it sounds like, a whole crowd of about 100 people as well! Jagz holds his own as well with his Punjabi vocals, this guy is too heavy. Absolutely amazing electric guitar solo at the end, by none other than DJ Swami himself! Never knew he was such a sick guitarist as well!
"see, you frontin' and you know its quite amusing, gwan like a bad man, get knocked out, and make excuses" - S-Endz-
-------------------
Track 10 - DesiRock (radio edit)
Just an clean version of the first track, it's also 2 minutes shorter.
----------------------------
FINAL VERDICT - 10/10
An absolutely classic album, like I said, about to change the whole face of our culture. Mark my words, this is the album to beat, and I'm gonna be laughing at all these other producers trying to sound like Swami and failing, and I'll be laughing at all these other MC's trying to sound like S-Endz and Sarpanch, and failing. I'll be supporting Swami every inch of the way in their climb to the top, and you should too.
