I got this e-mail a few days ago, but only looked at it yesterday evening.
Going thru the e-mail it makes some good points. I've copy & pasted the e-mail below with the contact info for the people who have sent the e-mail
I'm not saying I agree with this fully but it makes some valid points.
Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
Sangat take a look for yourself and decide where your money should be spent.
SIKH CHANNEL OR BRITASIA? - LET SANGAT DECIDE!
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh
During the week Sikh Channel has been doing whole day’s broadcasts and announcements on Sikh Channel (Sky 840) Constant demands and pleas are being made for Sangat money.
We are demanding responses from the Sikh Channel and Britasia TV owners (brothers) Davinder Singh Bal (Davy) and Jasvinder Singh Bal (Jas) for the Sangat:
Questions:
• Sikh Channel began to broadcast on 13th April 2009. From this day onwards we have been seeing messages on the screen for sangat to make donations. Why wasn’t the sangat and community leaders consulted of the financial commitment required before the Sikh Channel started running live on air?
• Sikh Channel is indicating on their screen that they are a ‘NOT FOR PROFIT COMPANY’ where is the registration number? And who are they registered with and when did they register?
• Who are the board members and how are they selected?
• If Sikh Channel’s management wants sangat to pay for the channel, don’t they feel its only right to make all evidence of accounts including detailed income and expenditure available for public viewing? (as this is sangat money)
• Why is it costing them in the region of £50,000 per month to run the Sikh Channel when it costs other Asian channels in the region of £35,000-£40,000 per month?
• Given that Sikh Channel is pleading poverty for the channel please explain how the costs of Britasia TV (sky 833) are being met?
• If Sikh Channel is receiving donations, sponsorship and money from adverts but is still struggling financially, then how is Britasia TV financed? (Bal brothers please explain?)
• With such levels of business experiences both the Bal brothers hold, surely they must have done at least a 3 year business and financial forecast for the Sikh Channel? If so, where is it?
• The management should explain in detail, how Britasia TV has manage to sustain itself all this time? Surely Sikh Channel in generating more money through sangats donations, sponsors and adverts then Britasia TV is?
• In comparison to the explicit material shown on Britasia TV is it not the case that Sikh Channel should take priority?
• Bal brother’s Don’t Delay Claim Today company is being advertised regularly on all major Asian channels, website and print media at a substantial monthly/yearly costs. If their businesses are doing so well, how are the Bal brothers affording this given that they are saying Sikh Channel is struggling financially?
• If Sikhi is paramount to the Bal brother’s, why don’t they sell Britasia TV and invest that money back in the Sikh Channel? (This way they will save in the region of £50.000 per month from Britasia TV costs and the wont need any money from the sangat)
In addition:
• Interestingly the plea on Wednesday 29th July 09 did not consist of the Bal brothers/key people running the channel, even that was left to sangat.
• Sangat were not consulted at any point at the beginning, but now Sangat are being asked to make contributions by being put on emotional guilt trips should they not contribute.
• Britasia TV is playing bhangra music and bholyan and is running under the very roof where Shabad, Kirtan is being recited.
• Britasia TV consists of half dressed females, offensive lyrics including those that are unsuitable in a family environment such as about alcohol, gigs, drugs.
• Sikh Channel are claiming that they channel is costing them in the region of £50,000 per month, this means that Britasia would be costing them this much too. Taking the total to £100,000 per month. In order to save the £50,000 surely they need to prioritise and knock Britasia on the head. Wouldn’t this show how much the bal brother vaule the Sikh Channel?
• Britasia is currently promoting a BritAsia Superstar competition www.britasiasuperstar.com (bhangra, bollywood, pop and RnB) surely this requires additional finances. Why not put that capitol in Sikh Channel?
