English is very strange Did you know that "verb" is a noun?
How can you look up words in a dictionary if you can't spell them?
If a word is misspelled in a dictionary, how would we ever know?
If two mouses are mice and two louses are lice, why aren't two houses hice?
If Webster wrote the first dictionary, where did he find the words?
If you wrote a letter, perhaps you bote your tongue?
If you've read a book, you can reread it. But wouldn't this also mean that you would have to "member" somebody in order to remember them?
In Chinese, why are the words for crisis and opportunity the same?
Is it a coincidence that the only 15 letter word that can be spelled without repeating a letter is uncopyrightable?
Is there another word for a synonym?
Shouldn't there be a shorter word for "monosyllabic"?
What is another word for "thesaurus"?
Where do swear words come from?
Why can't you make another word using all the letters in "anagram"?
Why do fat chance and slim chance mean the same thing?
Why do overlook and oversee mean opposite things?
Why do people use the word "irregardless"?
Why do some people type "cool" as "kewl?"
Why do we say something is out of whack? What is a whack?
Why do we say something's out of order when its broken but we never say in of order when it works?
Why does "cleave" mean both split apart and stick together?
Why does "slow down" and "slow up" mean the same thing?
Why does flammable and inflammable mean the same thing?
Why does the Chinese ideogram for trouble symbolize two women living under one roof?
Why does X stand for a kiss and O stand for a hug?
Why doesn't "onomatopoeia" sound like what it is?
Why don't we say "why" instead of "how come"?
Why is "crazy man" an insult, while to insert a comma and say "Crazy, man!" is a compliment?
Why are a wise man and wise guy opposites?
Why is abbreviation such a long word?
Why is dyslexic so hard to spell?
Why is it so hard to remember how to spell MNEMONIC?
Why is it that no word in the English language rhymes with month, orange, silver, or purple?
Why is it that the word "gullible" isn't in the dictionary?
Why is it that we recite at a play and play at a recital?
Why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham?
Why is the alphabet in that order? Is it because of that song?
Why is the plural of goose-geese, and not the plural of moose-meese?
Why isn't "palindrome" spelled the same way backwards?
Why isn't phonetic spelled the way it sounds?

English is very strange Did you know that "verb" is a noun? How can you look up words in a dictionary if you can't spell them? - U may not know the EXACT spelling of a word, but u know how the word sounds, therefore having a vague idea of the letters ''involved''. So u know what letter the word begins with.... u know what the word means..so go to ur dictionary, find the correct letter, then look for a word that sounds like the word your trying to spell. 9/10 the word u choose wil b the correct word your trying to spell. If a word is misspelled in a dictionary, how would we ever know? - A word wouldnt ever b mis-spelt in a dictionary. If it was then it would be a dictionary..would it!!If two mouses are mice and two louses are lice, why aren't two houses hice? - LOL.....This one should be in the comedy sectionIf Webster wrote the first dictionary, where did he find the words? If you wrote a letter, perhaps you bote your tongue? If you've read a book, you can reread it. But wouldn't this also mean that you would have to "member" somebody in order to remember them? - NO. because if uv read a book, and read it again... it means u RE-READ IT. reread without the hyphon isnt a word.....the hyphon in the middle is VERY important. remember is a word as a whole... no comparison to ''reread''.In Chinese, why are the words for crisis and opportunity the same? Is it a coincidence that the only 15 letter word that can be spelled without repeating a letter is uncopyrightable? - lol... did u know the only word that uses all of the Vowels is CAULIFLOWER!! ;D ;D ;DIs there another word for a synonym? - No there is notShouldn't there be a shorter word for "monosyllabic"? - Again no there isnt. What is another word for "thesaurus"? LexiconWhere do swear words come from? Why can't you make another word using all the letters in "anagram"? an anagram is a the name of a word in which u can re-arrange the letters to make other words... it does not mean that the ACTUAL word anagram needs to be an anagram....just coz of the definition of the the word. Why do fat chance and slim chance mean the same thing? Why do overlook and oversee mean opposite things? - they dont... they mean the same.it all depends upon the contect in which u speak. Why do people use the word "irregardless"? Why do some people type "cool" as "kewl?" - slangWhy do we say something is out of whack? What is a whack? - it can mean a number of things, but in the context that UV wrote it, it means ''out of order''. Why do we say something's out of order when its broken but we never say in of order when it works? - because ''in of order'' is in grammatically incorrect. Why does "cleave" mean both split apart and stick together? Why does "slow down" and "slow up" mean the same thing? ''slow up'' is in grammatically incorrectWhy does flammable and inflammable mean the same thing? Why does the Chinese ideogram for trouble symbolize two women living under one roof? Why does X stand for a kiss and O stand for a hug? Why doesn't "onomatopoeia" sound like what it is? - It does... just with a silent OWhy don't we say "why" instead of "how come"? - If you speak proper english then u say ''why''.... if ur frm brum then u say ''how come''....Why is "crazy man" an insult, while to insert a comma and say "Crazy, man!" is a compliment? [ b]- Like i said, in ''re-read'' a hyphon is very important. Any punctuation in a sentence can change the whole context of what is being said... as u have jus proven with ur above comment.[/b][/color] BE RIGHT BK!!! MOM CALLING ME Why are a wise man and wise guy opposites? Why is abbreviation such a long word? Why is dyslexic so hard to spell? - its only hard to spell if ur dyslexic. but then so is any other difficult word. Why is it so hard to remember how to spell MNEMONIC? - its not....Why is it that no word in the English language rhymes with month, orange, silver, or purple? turtle rhymes with purple. Why is it that the word "gullible" isn't in the dictionary? - Its an adjective. Why is it that we recite at a play and play at a recital? - Reciting at a play is different from just a recital. It all depends upon the context of which u are speaking. Why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? - not even going to comment on the stupidity of this one....Why is the alphabet in that order? Is it because of that song? - Its not because of the song, coz the song caqme out AFTER the alphabet. check this link out: www.percepp.demon.co.uk/alphabet.htmWhy is the plural of goose-geese, and not the plural of moose-meese? Why isn't "palindrome" spelled the same way backwards? - Just wanted 2point something out to you... Just coz the MEANING of the word is that u can spell a word the same backwards are u can forwards, doesnt mean that the ACTUAL word has to b a palindrome...same goes with ur anagram comment further up the page. Why isn't phonetic spelled the way it sounds? - It is!!

^^Just some advice.... dont think about the fact that the exam lasts 3hrs... trust me wen u get into that exam and start writing u will find that u still need another 3hrs to finish the exam. u will not have enough time to breathe let alone get bored in that exam.
When answering questions stick to the question/essay subject in hand. dont go drifting off into whole paragraphs that just arent relevant. read the questions very carefully. understand what is being asked of u before u start writing... then draft ur essay first!!

I did English Language A level too.. which exam board are you doing it on? If it's AQA tell me the module and then I'll tell u how easy it is! BTW Bunnypie.. by drafting first, did you mean draft as in write a draft? Cos personally I found the best way was to split the title up in to the points you're meant to be addressing.. then make a rough table where you follow Point> Example> Analysis. Once you made as many points as you think are relevant, the essay flows like childsplay.. and you think of more relevant points along the way anyway ;D English is nice like that. WHY am I studying pharmacy? //

^^When i say draft, i dont mean draft the whole thing out...coz thats a waste of time. like i sed, the hints to your answers are always in the question. so as uv sed... sqeeze as many points outa the question as u can..bullet point etc, whatever ur comfortable with..then add the meat.

Phew. Cos writing a lengthy draft is the last thing I'd expect ;D I wouldn't even bother with a draft if it was coursework!
My table idea defo works if that's any help to anyone who needs it.. it's quick, takes 10 mins, and leaves u with time at the end to polish up any errors u made on the way ;D I swear by my technique! ;D

AQA is gay then! Pshhhh Anyhoo.. first module u mentioned I'm defo familiar with. The other 2 sound like a mixture of what I did and something else new! All good tho. Generally speaking, AQA is the easiest for English Language anyway.. don't worry I'm sure you're bright enough to pass with flying colours anyway! Good lucky!! ;D

^AQA is more student friendly with the way they express the question. the difficulty between the different exam boards exam papers are the same.
