Album: Essential Asian R&B
Artist/s: Various
Label: Outcaste Records
In recent years albums of these nature have seen a very good response. Both ‘Urban Explosion’ and ‘Urban Fusion’ were very well received. Bhangra may always have been seen as the Indian form of Hip-Hop, but it seems to be getting closer and closer to the R’N’B sound within the last few years. This album is evidence of just that. We also have Asians actively involved in R’N’B music which is a great achievement in itself. At the forefront of this movement are Raghav and Jay Sean. No surprise then that both are featured on this album.
The ‘Response’ track to the massive ‘I Don’t Wanna Know’ by Mario Winans, aptly named ‘You Should Really Know, is the chosen track to open this album. Featuring artists such as Shola Ama and Naila Boss it’s the beat that is as contagious as ever. Jay Sean lends his name to this album in the form of ‘I’m Ready’. A brand new track that is exclusive to this album. A smooth moving R’N’B track if ever there was one. It’s one of those tracks that you’ll like listening to driving home after a long days work. ‘Rouge’ are also featured on here with ‘Don’t Be Shy’, as is the Rishi Rich and clan with ‘Hum Tum’.
‘Ahan Kara Nagare’ has been taken off Ranidu Lankage’s album Diviyapura (All My Life). Hailing from Sri Lanka, this young producer gives us a very catchy, very infectious tune that I don’t understand a word of! I have to be honest and say I love this tune! If you are experimental with your music, you need to check this out. Raghav’s first entry is the debonair ‘Teri Baaton Mein’ taken off his album ‘Storyteller. The hit ‘So Confused’ is also featured. Juggy D’s ‘Akheer’ also finds it’s way on the album, although I’m not sure why. A class track nonetheless.
Other tracks to look out for include Bally Sagoo’s ‘Naiyon Dil Lagda’, Notorious Jatt’s ‘Hoi Hoi’, J-Nas’s ‘I’m So Into You’ featuring Caramel and the Skylone Vs Jay Sean remix of his Top 4 hit ‘Stolen’. A very good relick I might add. Gives it something new. It has been re-sang, slightly differently, by Jay. This album has a good selection of songs which should satisfy anybody who enjoyed it’s predecessors. An album that claims to be ‘The Definitive Guide To The Very Best Asian R’n’B Of The Moment’. It does exactly what it says on the cover.
Well worth buying if your into your Asian R’n’B.
