I totally agree with you. I never made it as far as Bradford, but I went to one In sheffield, that was ok I do rememember all the other clubs you mentioned inc Pink Coconut -Derby Black Orchaid - Notts Bagleys Film Studios - London Never been there, but remember hearing storys about it) Hammersmith Palias -London There were the good old days!!!!!! Everyone use to dress up smart for them back in them days! The best way to discribe how it was back then is comparing it to the Asain Ball or better yet a wedding party. Well may be not so glamours as that, but everyone use to make the effot to dress up. No trainers of jeans or caps etc Those were the days!

oh my god!!!! the 80's/90's ,
I rem going to bhangra party's, in clubs around manchester, it was brill everyone had a great time, in them days the party's were held in the afternoons and would have bhangra and soul afternoons. rem going to Rotters night club Applejacks and others, used to wag work to go with firends , and we could never wait for the next one, think they were every week or every other..I was looking at the list above of the bands and rem a lot of them came down and entertained us, we even got to see johnny Z ( sterio nation).
bring back the party's !!!!

It's true, I hate to admit it, but the live scene has gone downhill. The bands & singers should all geet together & refuse to do P.A gigs & should only do live shows with full bands. If the promoters say it's all live & not PA's & don't blag it, i'm surre more people will come out.
The Bhangra scene is surviving by the skin of it's teeth thanks to all the producers & DJ's out there doing there stuff, but I know I would rather see the SAhotas, Alaap, Heera, DCS, Apna Group or even Dalvinder SIngh, Gubi Sandhu, B21 etc if they had a live band with them. No offence to the Bally SAgoo/ Jagpals, SAnj, Zeus etc of this world. You might be very good producers & very good DJ's etc, but a full live band commands respect from the crowd, more than someone just singing on top of a CD etc. No offence meant to anyone, but that's just my thought.

I remember MGMs in Notts The Bhangra Supergroup or something like that. One set of Musicians & all the top singers were there!!!!! Alaap, Malisit Singh, Safri, DCs, Apna Sangeet, Sahotas & a few others all performed together. That gig was RAMMED solid up & down! & not a single fight anywhere! Only bad thing it took nearly 30 minutes to get served at the bar.

Hey Peeps, I so agree with the comments about that missing live bhangra 'vibe' from back in the day. People used to make the 'effort' to come to a gig - and always with a positive attitude rather than to start anything. I strongly remeber Krystals, Pink Coconuts, Palais De Dance and especially MGM's. Ash, I was very lucky to be part of the whole build up from scratch of the Superjam with the Supergroup from the practice sessions all the way to the event on the day, as my brother Rana was part of the promoters behind that gyg, Nutek Entertainments. Speaking to Sunil Kalyan (Alaaps Tabal player) at the UK AMA's prelaunch party recently and mentioning the possibility of a Superjam part 3 (the 2nd one was at the Palais in London), he said it would never be repeated on this level again as the event was truly a moment in the history of live Bhangra music. Peace....... Baja
