Album: Patha Nai Jindh Kadh Muk Jani E
Artist: Various
Record Label: Moviebox
December 26th 2004 saw South East Asia hit by one of the worst natural disasters ever. The Tsunami left people all over the world shaken. Prayers and donations were sent in from all over the world in order to help the people of South East Asia return to some kind of normality. Naturally, that will take time.
This album has been recorded to raise money for the ever so important Tsunami Appeal.
The title track ‘Patha Nai Jindh Kadh Muk Jani E’ see’s the collaboration of four of the best Vocalists in the game today. Shin (DCS), Jassi Sidhu, Taz (Stereo Nation) and Sukhbir.
Shin says of the track “ I was asked by the Record company to get involved in this project. They approached me and asked me to compose a track for the Tsunami Appeal. So I got together with a writer named Happy Bains. I told him basically what I wanted and he wrote a beautiful track with beautiful lyrics. I then made the melody, took it into the studio and started arranging and composing the music for it.”
The Lyrics are ,as Shin puts it, simply beautiful. Every word means something. The production is equally beautiful. The music speaks to you too.
Shin Added “We used really good classical musicians on the percussion in the production of the track. We got a talented young lady named Roopa to play the sitar. We used another talented man named Kirpal Singh who is also classically trained. It was a great pleasure to work with such talented people.”
It’s not often you see a number of talented vocalists on one track. If Shin had his way there would have been more. (Shin) “ When we started recording this track I thought It would be a good idea to get a lot of people involved in the project. But with people having such busy schedules with couldn’t get as many people as we would have liked. I wanted to get as many Singers as possible on the track. The people that were around were Taz, Jassi Sidhu and Sukhbir. So the four of us got together. It was a great experience to work with these Artists. They are all excellent Singers in their own right and they brought their own individual style and feel to the track. The four of us seem to gel really well together.”
When asked Jassi Sidhu had this to say of his involvement : (Jassi) “Well, Shin called me and told me about this track he was putting together. And when Shin calls you don’t say no. I’ve been a big fan of his ever since I was a kid, so it was just a great honour to work with him. It’s also for a really good cause. It was a terrible disaster that took place and I think we all should do something, anything we can do to help. Hopefully people will buy the album which will raise money to go towards helping the people in South East Asia. It makes you realise just how lucky we are. We are in a position to do something, to help in anyway we can and that‘s exactly why I wanted to be a part of this project.”
Taz has spent a lot of time around the world, touring in places in and around South East Asia. He told me “ I got involved as the result of a phone call from Shin, who from my point of view is solely responsible for putting the whole thing together. I was previously involved in organising an event to raise money with which we raised #20,000. That was a Dinner & Dance , held in my hometown of Coventry. I felt like I needed to do whatever I could do to help. After that Shin called me. I was more than willing to help. It‘s great to see so many artists come together for a cause like this.”
Sukhbir is another who spends a lot of time in different parts of the world. Suhkbir said “I was in Dubai when I got a phone call from Jassi Sidhu. He asked me if I would be a part of this project. Of course I was willing and able, so he posted me the track. I recorded my part in Dubai. I felt it was important for me to get involved in a project like this. So when the opportunity presented itself I was happy to help. When the Tsunami hit I was in Mumbai which is not very far from where people were effected most. I was watching the Live scenes on T.V just like everyone around the globe. I just thought God has given Us the strength to help. So it’s our duty to do so. After it happened I was hearing stories of money being collected but not going to the where they should have. When I heard Moviebox were involved in this I knew the money would go through to the right channels. It’s also nice to work with artists of the calibre that the album boasts.”
This originally started out as a E.P. The decision was made to turn this into an album soon after by the Record Company. Other tracks that’s really stand out are Kami K’s ‘Duniya Chalo Chali Da Mela’ which features Balwinder Bhatti, Ray Khan (NRG), R.J, Sonia Mehta and Shubhra as well as ‘Tere Bina’ featuring Hunterz and Ishers. This album has a purpose. That is to raise money. A big well done needs to go to the artists who came together and donated their time and efforts for such a worthy cause.
