Black Moth Connection release their debut single, ‘Shake Ur Booty’ 6th of September, 2004.
‘Shake Ur Booty’ is a highly infectious blast of what the band call, ‘bollyfunk beatz’ (part hip hop, part Bollywood, part Neptunes). Soaring strings and funky hip hop drums are topped off with lead singer Natalya Nair’s sexy vocals. Natalya is one of the most distinctive new singers to break big this year sounding like a cross between Grace Jones and Lauryn Hill
The Black Moth sound has been developed over the last couple of years running their own club called ‘Sintillate Live’. During this time they were working on their own material which led to their debut video, ‘Blingalicious’ going to number one on U channel. They’ve also just launched a new night at ‘NYT’ which runs every last Friday of each month. Featuring DJ’s EZ:KL, Mark Devlin and MR L plus special guests like Taz, Gemma Fox and Jay Sean plus many more.
‘Shake Ur Booty’ has already been heavily featured by Radio One’s Nihal and Bobby Friction, and has been picked up by The BBC Asian Network and pirate stations throughout the country.
Black Moth Connection are made up of 3 sexy, stylish and highly talented musicians. The striking features of Natalya Nair (who has appeared in Yellow Pages, Evian, Pepe Jeans and Swatch commercials) give the band a potent visual appeal and it’s her vocals that really carry ‘Shake Ur Booty’. The beats man and originator of the collective, Alex the Moth has performed with Bjork, Nellee Hooper, Dead Prez Dream Teem and Talvin Singh and Jay Moth (Alex’s cousin) is the rapper and together they’ve been tearing up clubs for a year.
‘Shake Ur Booty’ will be released by Hex Unit Records/Gut Records 6 September, 2004.
