Album: Revolver
Artist: Lakhwinder Wadali
Label: Music Waves
Every now and then, an album comes on the market which breathes quality and threatens to change the face of music. I remember ‘Powered Up’ by ‘Shaktee’, Bally Sagoo’s ‘Wham Bam’ was another, as was Panjabi Mc’s ‘100% Proof’ being amongst such albums. More recently Dr. Zeus’s ‘Unda The Influence’ has had such an effect. However none of those albums can be considered as Raw and ‘Desi’ as ‘Revolver’.
Produced By the ‘Wizard Ravi Bal’ and ‘Jai Dev’, this album boasts the vocal talents of new singing sensation ‘Lakhwinder Wadali’. It’s hard to describe the guy’s singing ability without sounding too cliché but I haven’t heard a vocalist with such a raw energy for a long, long time. He slips from classical mode to romantic, heart felt songs with such ease, it’s almost untrue.
The album kicks off with ‘Revolver’, an explosive opener and well worthy of it’s position on the album. The production is spot on and the melody is very catchy and bright. ‘Kikkar Te’ is another with a infectious beat. In both tracks Lakhwinder shows off his uncooked vocals with impressive results. He displays his versatility as a singer on the slow, melodious ‘Diva’. But he’s not done yet. The track ‘Roag’ is the stage where he decides to exhibit his years of classical training. And I don’t think I’m going overboard by mentioning Lakhwinder and the great ‘Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’ in the same sentence. A track that will see his reputation only grow in all areas of the music business.
With great vocalists seemingly rare and exceptional vocalists almost non-existent in today’s market, it looks as though Ravi Bal has picked a gem of an artist in Lakhwinder. Singers have so much pull in today’s music as record companies fall over themselves to get any vocals they can get their hands on. In Ravi Bal, Lakhwinder has got himself one of the few real producers left in the game. Artists such as Lakhwinder and Ravi are in short supply. What this album does is shows there is no substitute for quality.
This album brings back Desi music with a bang.
