Bollywood’s number one director Karan Johar may face bankruptcy if Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna doesn’t prove to be a success.
The film, which releases in 10 days time, is laden with sex and bedroom scenes, a first for the director. His previous two films have been family orientated and suitable for viewers of all ages. However, he has already stated numerous times, that this Amitabh Bachchan starrer is for the more mature film-goer.
One scene in the film sees Shah Rukh Khan’s character in bed making love, with Rani Mukherjee, the wife of Abhishek Bachchan’s character. Shah Rukh has said that he felt very uncomfortable doing this lengthy scene, especially with someone who is not his wife.
In the film Shah Rukh Khan and Abhishek Bachchan have affairs with each others wives, those being Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee, respectively.
Some reports in the media have said that even Amitabh Bachchan’s character is sexually driven in the film, tendering scenes in a sexual language, never heard before from the legend.
If the film does not prove to hit it of with the movie lovers, then Karan Johar’s production house may face bankruptcy, as nearly $12m has been spent on making this romantic melodrama. Which is considerably more than what was spent on this year’s special effects bonanza Krrish, and yet Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna has no special effects at all.
This is the first film that Karan has made a film without the support of his father Yash Johar, who sadly passed away a couple of years ago. Without the assistance and advice of Johar Snr, Karan may have made the ultimate mistake of making a film for grown-ups, and therefore the failure of it, due to that reason, costing Dharma Productions financially.
