Here’s a short but rare interview with the actor par excellence on his latest UTV release, Taxi No.9211:
You have played the role of a taxi driver in the recently released ‘Taxi No.9211’. Do you think it's easy to lead a life as cabbie in Mumbai?
Nothing is easy in Mumbai, to earn their daily bread people travel from Nerul (a distant suburb of Mumbai) to Napean Sea Road (one of the most posh areas of Mumbai). I have used my 30 years' experience of dealing with taxi drivers in Mumbai and have tried to do justice to the character. However, in the film I am an educated person and become a cab driver mainly due to unemployment.
Was it difficult to play a cabbie in ‘Taxi No.9211’?
No. I thought that the hand gear would be a problem as I use a fully automatic car. After some practice, I started enjoying it.
Will you be any different in this film?
Well, I have tried to do something different this time, because after Apaharan people will see me in a lighter role. It's not a comedy, but the situations in the film are extremely funny.
You’ve worked with John Abraham for the first time in ‘Taxi No.9211’. What was the experience?
John was really good. He has become popular in no time and is actively honing his acting skills. Very soon, he will be the best.
What other projects do you have on hand?
I have signed Anees Bazmee's Welcome and Bharati Raja's thriller Cinema. I play the role of a 65-year-old director who falls in love with an 18-year-old actress
You're directing a film for Prakash Jha. What is it about?
I am planning to direct a musical love story. I may not look romantic but I feel the same emotions as anyone else. Not just that, I love music and have profound knowledge of it. I want to cast Rani Mukerji as the female lead.
