The AMA’s could be described as the Asian equivalent of the MTV Music Awards. – whereby those within the ‘urban’ music scene are rated HOT or NOT by fans and artistes alike.
Myself and Tony on behalf of the gigteam at Punjab2000 were accordingly invited to the ‘official’ launch/pre-party at the CC Club in Leicester Square, London. Now, strictly speaking, it was really just a good reason to get together for everyday folk with an eye and an ear for a funky beat to rub shoulders with artistes from the industry representing the scene as it stands today.
Without the whole issue of politics re: the original set-up of the two promoters going their own way to do an ‘awards ceremony’, this event marked the fact that Asians are slowly but surely doing it for themselves.
The turnout of ‘artistes’ was illustrative of the support in recognising the cream of the crop…..these included:
E=MC (Untouchables) Dropping His debut album soon
Surj (RDB)
Harvey Sahota (Panjabi X)
Tigerstyle
Panjabi Hit Squad
Bee2 - Soundpipe Studios
Smuj - The Geezah (Hellrazors)
Sunil Kalyan (Tabla Player for Alaap coming out with an album very soon !!)
Channi (Alaap)
Mona Singh
Ameet Chana (Adi Eastenders)
Sophie Haque (Bombay Dreams and Bollywood Star)
Sanj J Sanj (BBC Asian Network)
Sunny Suri - Metropolis Mangement / Movie Mag
Kushty - Chakk De Phattey / Kushty.com
Amit Rai
Chaz
Sneha Mistri
Jeeti (Off The Hook)
Kam Bhamra
Shelia G
UK Apache - The Original Nuttah
Hosted on the night By Tasmin Khan, Kushty & CK Flash
Uk Apachi came on right near the end of the night, and he smashed it!!! He had the crowd singing to as what can only be discribe as one of the (if not the) biggest Jungle ANTHEM ever made
"Original Nutta"
There were also numerous pa’s throughout the night, too many to mention, of yet unsigned artistes………<br>With a wicked DJ set by DJ Clipse(?) alongsinde MC Inja & Panjabi Hit Squad who are still mashing it up & still playing out all over the place.
Check out the photos from the night.....
