Birmingham to Leicester Sponsored Charity Bike Ride 2006! Sunday 18th June Come Challenge yourself! 400 years ago Guru Arjan Dev Jee, the beloved fifth Guru of the Sikh faith sacrificed his life in order to uphold the values of truth, equality and freedom of expression. His actions were truly courageous and inspiring to all. In an endeavor to pay a small tribute to the first Sikh martyr and to encourage us to sacrifice a little of our time, energy and good will in homage to Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s ultimate sacrifice: BOSS, Midlands Sikh Societies and Young Sikhs Leicester in conjunction with National Bike Week and the local police authorities have come together to support some great causes and have some good-natured fun in the process! This exciting event will support, raise awareness and provide equipment to a couple of great charities. The Gurseva project work tirelessly to assist orphaned children in northern India and in addition to this a local charity will also benefit. (tbc) Leaving bright and early on Sunday 18th June we’ll begin our trek from Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick to Guru Tegh Bahadhur Gurdwara in sunny old Leicester! Enjoy the picturesque journey and feel the satisfaction of playing your part in helping those less fortunate than ourselves and sacrificing a little of your time and energy in memory of that great sacrifice made by our Guru. All we ask from you is that you come equipped with a road-worthy bike ( no pindu style condition please!) a turban or helmet, loads of enthusiasm, some generous sponsors and most of all be ready for a bundle of laughs (and a bit of sweat!) on the way! Anyone and everyone is welcome. People of all abilities, aged from 14-101 years old! Instead of the usual Sunday sipping tea with uncle and aunty or surfing the net, come out, enjoy the sun, relish the company and do something worthwhile! At the end all participants will receive a t-shirt that your mates will envy, a shiny medal and a certificate so you can prove you completed the challenge! Riders will gain a free entry to a prize draw and there will be a wicked prize for the guy or gal who raises the most money! So if you can ride a bike and want to make a little difference, while getting fit and having fun in the process then what are you waiting for?? Fill in the application form, add your £10 entrance fee and send it off before the 31st May and be a part of this amazing event. It is limited to only 100 participants so if you wanna be part of the exclusive network of bikers than hurry up and get those forms in!Check out the sites below for more information… Happy cycling! www.boss-uk.org www.youngsikhs.org/bikeride (Leicester Crew)www.bikeweek.orgwww.gurseva.org[All Leicester MassivÉ to email bikeride@youngsikhs.org or jasdeep_lamsar@hotmail.com OR PM ME ]

Hi Folks - watch out for the Punjab2000 Video Crew - they will be there - for a special recording for MATVs new Punjabi Hour - 7-8pm everyday - UK & Europe - SKY Channel 793 ;D 1. Brief route outline The bike ride rode as part of National Bike Week on Sunday 18th June. It Started from smethwick at 10am and reached Leicester at around 5.30pm. The route was approximately 45 miles, which covered Rural England & the beautiful Leicestershire countryside. 2. WHO WERE THE ORGANISERS?The sikh youth of the midlands had organised the charity bike ride. Mainly the members of BOSS and Sikhs from Leicester as well as other individuals from many differnt backrounds. 3. WHICH OF THE CHARITY'S WILL BENEFIT?*An orphanage in Northern India through the Gurseva children's project www.gurseva.org *Birmingham children's hospital *United Kingdom Children's Cancer Study Circle (based in Leicester) 4. HOW MANY PEOPLE TOOK PART? 95 riders took part from all over the country and all different backgrounds. Mixture of genders and ages ranging from 12-60! Also over 40 volunteers to make sure the day ran smoothly. To the pleasant surprise of the organisers around 95% of the bikers were able to complete the ride. We put this down to Maharaj Ji di Kirpa added with the encouragement of all the bikers (sadh-sangat so to speak) 5. How much money was raised? The riders have raised over £7500 in sponsorship so far! This is a fantastic amount and we are optimistic the official total once all has been collected, will be higher! 6. ANY PLANS FOR ANOTHER?We would like to make it into an annual event as they has been a lot of interest and keen bikers to take it further. But it is difficult to organise and is only possible if we are able to raise enough funding to make the day feasible through our generous sponsors. 7. Comments from organisers/bikers/spectators..We cant stress how much of a positive and uplifting feedback there has been. Many people, bikers, helpers and spectators alike have commented on what a heart-warming and fantastic day it was. It ran very smoothly with no real hiccups and everyone really enjoyed themselves. There was a real sense of spirit, a great sense of achievement but most of all an overwhelming sense of encouragement and comradeship by all. Some actual quotes from emails: Sukhdeep Kaur from Willenhall: "Best day of my life! Enjoyed every second and was sad to see the day end" "I wanted to cycle back to birmingham with everyone!" Anonymous: "What a great day, went so smoothly... I was taken aback by everyone's determination to complete the whole route" Media coverage by Punjab2000 & MATV WaTcH MATV - UK & Europe - SKY Channel 793 this wednesday between 7 & 8pm for the Bike Ride Programme
