Just posting a e-mail I got from a friend out in California Hi, I am not sure but I got this news thru mail, Letz check it out? Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August. It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will culminate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of Earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like The Earth has 2 Moons. Don't Miss it..... The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287. NOTE: Share this with ur friends as NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again!!!!!!

Tony after doing research i have discovered that this is false. Basically there have been many e-mails that have been circulating since 2003 about this event, and all are false. urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_mars_encounter.htmI got excited so i decided to research, but ye, the e mails are rubbish ''Comments: True... in 2003. As About.com astronomy expert Nick Greene wrote at the time, "August of 2003 is a special time for scientists and amateur astronomers. Our red neighbor, Mars will move closer than it's been in 50,000 years. On August 27, 2003, the 'red planet' will be less than 55.76 million kilometers (34.65 million miles) away from the Earth." Oddly enough, however, the same message made the rounds again in May 2005, and yet again in June 2006. Although clearly the same "once in a lifetime" celestial event could not occur again so soon, the 2005 version may have seemed accurate at first glance due to announcements by astronomers earlier that year stating that the orbits of the Earth and Mars would draw closer together than usual during the month of October. The 2006 version is just plain false.''
