www.ektaone.com/campaign_r4g.phpSri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is going to be taken to Royal Lancaster Hotel on 23rd October 2005 for a “Sikh Wedding”. Members of the UK Sikh Community have been in discussions with the families of the B >:(ride and Groom as well as the Wedding Arranger. All of them are aware of the Hukamnama from Sri Akal Takht Sahib and that taking Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to a venue that serves alcohol, meat & tabbacco is against Sikh Principles. However they are adamant to proceed with this “Sikh Wedding”. What can you do? As members of the Sikh Community please ring the following and voice your concerns: Royal Lancaster Hotel (Royal Lancaster Hotel, Lancaster Terrace, London W2 2TY): Craig Robertson - Director Conference & Banqueting (car@royallancaster.com) on 020 7262 6737 Wedding Arrangers Paul (Director of Curry Special) on 07768 422181 or 020 8518 3003 Sanjay Anand of Madhu's on 020 8574 1897 Granthi Harbans Singh Suraj (currently on Vectone Punjabi's Gur Kirpa programme) will be taking Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to this hotel. Please contact him & inform that his actions are direct violation of Sri Akal Takht Sahib & the Khalsa Panth. Ring Harbans Singh Suraj on 01634 576100 Please remember when ringing that you are representing the Sikh Community. Please refrain from bad language and confrontational discussions. Together as Sadh Sangat we can stop this bad practice and give respect to Gurbani & Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as given by our Gurus & GurSikhs. Vaheguru Jee Ka Khalsa. Vaheguru Jee Kee Fateh. -------------------- Respect for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Campaign 07944 445651 sikhalerts@yahoo.co.uk www.GuruGranthSahibJi.comwww.SikhDreamWeddings.co.uk

How do you know that Harbans Suraj is responsible for taking Maharj Di Birh there?
But I agree with you, and do not think this is on. Its just for the families who are more worried about the party side of the wedding than the religious aspect, and just want to bring the Guru Granth Sahib Ji in quickly to their wedding so that they can make the name that they have completed their laamhaan. How pathetic. Might give this Harbans a ring live on air tonight and see what he says

UPDATE - THURSDAY, 13th OCTOBER 2005 Sangat has received confirmation from Craig Robertson, Director Conference & Banqueting of Royal Lancaster Hotel London, that the Anand Karaj will not happen in the hotel & Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji will not be brought onto the hotel complex. The Anand Karaj will happen at Shepard's Bush Gurdwara, on 23rd October 2005, which is 5 minutes from the hotel. Mr. Robertson admitted that the board of directors could not believe the response & the emotions of the Sikh Community. He also said that they did not receive any abusive or confrontational telephone call or email. The Sangat who rang it or emailed wished to educate the hotel about Sikh Principles and the greatness of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Royal Lancaster is in the process of drafting a statement and this will be emailed to all members of the Sangat who sent an email about this issue. This should be out by the evening. Thank you to all, Guruji has blessed everyone. It is amazing to see the passion within our Sikh Sangat who stand against beadbi. Together we can work towards the end of this bad practice of taking Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to hotels, clubs, banqueting halls etc where alcohol, meat & tobacco is continuously served. brilliant. the hotel manager had enough sense and knowledge to know not to go through with it. Whereas it shud have been the families themselves who shudnt even be making such ridiculous decisions. Ok, I know back in the day in the pind that the Guru Granth Sahib Ji used to be brought to the house, or the place where the function was gonna take place, but that was only when there were no local gurudwara's in the pind.

Beadbi of Guru Ji Successfully Prevented Sunday 16th October, 2005 Panthic Weekly News Bureau J.S. Jogi with Harbans Singh Suraj London, UK (KP) - On October 23rd, 2005, a family had arranged an Anand Karaj (Sikh religious wedding ceremony) to take place at the Royal Lancaster Hotel. When members of the Sikh community found out about this planned wedding, they were in dismay over how someone could take Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji's Saroop to a hotel, club or any place where there is a bar, and alcohol and tobacco is permitted. The family planning the marriage ceremony were contacted by members of the Sikh community to discuss the severity of taking Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji's Saroop to unsuitable locations, which is a compromise of Sikh discipline and conduct and violating of the sanctity of the Sacred Scripture, which Sikhs consider and revere with utmost respect as their living and speaking eternal Guru in the form of the Shabad (Infinite Wisdom recorded in the Word). Despite several weeks of dialogue with the bride and grooms families, the wedding organisers and the management of the Royal Lancaster Hotel venue refused to respect the religious sentiments of the Sikh community and take appropriate action by changing the venue of the Anand Karaj to a suitable location, i.e. a nearby Gurdwara Sahib. Sadly, the responsibility of 'beadbi' (violation) of Guru Ji's Saroop is more on the head of the Granthi Singh or Singhni who agrees and takes Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to unsuitable venues where there is alcohol and tobacco are consumed and served, thereby undermining the sanctity and high-regard for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. It was alleged that Granthi Harbans Singh Suraj, who is a television presenter on Vectone Punjabi's ‘Gur Kirpa' programme, was planning to take Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to this hotel. Some people had also claimed that Giani Harbans Singh had been responsible for taking Guru Ji's Saroop to hotels and unsuitable locations at other weddings also. A meeting was held on Wednesday 12th October by Vectone TV management regarding Giani Harbans Singh Suraj, and a decision was made to keep him on as a presenter. In the meeting with the TV management Giani Harbans Singh Suraj denied that he had previously taken Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to hotels, banqueting halls etc. or gone against the 1998 Akal Takht Hukamnama. He also denied that he has any involvement with the wedding at the Royal Lancaster Hotel on 23 October 2005. Sikhs from across the UK had planned to hold peaceful protests on the 23rd October outside the Royal Lancaster Hotel. However, after receiving numerous complaints through phone calls and emails, highlighting the Sikh community's concerns, Craig Robertson, Director Conference & Banqueting of Royal Lancaster Hotel London, decided that the Anand Karaj will not happen in the hotel, and that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji will not be brought into the hotel complex. The Anand Karaj will now take place at Shepard's Bush Gurdwara Sahib in Central London on 23rd October 2005, which is five minutes from the Royal Lancaster hotel. The re-arrangements of the Anand Karaj to prevent any 'beadbi' (violation) of Guru Ji's Saroop from happening was confirmed to the Respect Guru Ji Campaign by Sergent Holyok from Paddington Green Police Station. Sikhs are grateful for the support of the police in this campaign and will continue to work with them to prevent future cases. Mr. Robertson admitted that the board of directors could not believe the response & the emotions of the Sikh Community. He also said that they did not receive any abusive or confrontational telephone call or email. The Sikh Sangat who rang the hotel or emailed wished to educate the hotel about Sikh principles & protocol, and the high regard and respect for Guru Granth Sahib Ji. It is amazing to see the passion within our Sikh Sangat who stand against beadbi (disrespect and violation) of Guru Ji. Together we can work towards the end of this bad practice of taking Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to hotels, clubs, banqueting halls etc.. where alcohol and tobacco are continuously served, and where Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is treated as a mere commodity rather than as a Guru. As Sikhs we have the duty and responsibility to serve the Sikh Panth. All Sikhs are asked to be vigilant and report any Granthis or individuals who agree to take Guru Granth Sahib Ji to hotels, banqueting halls etc. and regard Guru Ji's saroop as a means of making money and business.
