This is a documentary which was filmed a few years back, speaking about the riots in Gujarat which left over 2000 people dead. Government death tolls speak of less than 2000, but many independent surveys found that well over two thousand were killed, the vast majority of whom were Muslims.
The reason behind posting this is just to get a different perspective. Many posts in this board show a slight bit of anti-Muslim sentiment, and as is so prevelant in Desis, we always seem to find a reason to clash amongst ourselves over religion or ethnicity.
As is obvious, the majority of the users on this site are of Punjabi background, so I'm presenting a video which speaks of people of a different ethnicity, and of two different faiths, to see if we get the same reaction. There are some who when the events of 1984 are mentioned, their blood will boil inside of them. Why is the same not shown when such atrocities are committed at greater scales to others, who are of the same race as you?
Have we not noticed how many times in the world, certain incidents are twisted around (and very often, false information is planted for political gains) and used to fuel hate inside a group of people, against another? Have we not noticed how many times there have been mass killings of people in the subcontinent simply on the basis of their backgrounds? Whether it be religious, ethnic, political alignment, social class, or whatnot...it has happened many times. It was done to Sikhs by the central government of India, and it was done to Muslims by the government of Gujarat.
All I can say is, stop this division crap. There is nothing that separates anyone from the subcontinent except notions which have been concocted in our own minds. I myself despise the notions that India is only for Hindus, that Khalistan needs to be created for Sikhs, or that Pakistan had to be created as a safe haven for Muslims. It's all bullcrap. It really is. Many will not agree, but what it really comes down to is that we've all just been bred this way, into believing in these huge gaps that supposedly separate us.
Cut the hatred of Muslims, cut the hatred of Hindus, cut the hatred of Sikhs, cut the hatred of Christians. We've all got our own views, but people are still people. Anyway, hopefully someone will get something out of this documentary, and perhaps will not see things in a one-sided way anymore. That's my real intention, to show another perspective on things. In no way am I trying to intice anyone, so don't take my comments offensively. The documentary is in three languages (Hindi, Urdu and Gujarati) but there are English subtitles.
Hopefully those of you who read this far will actually watch it and gain something out of it.
