Birmingham International Airport has disclosed that a service to the north Indian city of Amritsar will begin in April. Akal Air will operate twice-weekly flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays from the Midlands airport, with the commencement of the route scheduled for April 4, 2009. This service will replace a similar Air India route to Amritsar, which was withdrawn from Birmingham last year so that the airline could focus on its operations at London Heathrow Airport. Daljit Singh Birring, managing director of Akal Air, suggested that Birmingham International Airport is the "perfect base" for the airline. He said: "Access to Amritsar is of huge importance to the large Punjabi and Sikh population of the Midlands taking the pilgrimage to the Golden Temple and visiting family and friends." Birmingham International Airport is the sixth busiest aviation centre in the UK and handled more than 9.6 million passengers in 2008. Anyone gunna travel with these lot? if so please post a review when you get back ! i'm not to sure about using the Khanda in the Logo? as its not a sikh airline and when does religion come in to flights :S Key people Kabir Khan(Chairman) Shab Uddin (Vice Chairman) Kim O’Neil (General Manager) Shalim Uddin (Finance Director}
