hello all,
ive always wanted to dj and have got myself a small set up in my bedroom, to start off i just want to make a few mixtapes of my favourite songs to play in my car etc, no plans to become a professional or anything yet lol.
anyway ive got the fundamentals of beat matching down altho i need to practice more to make the mixes sound tighter, but aside from beat matching, what other things / tricks do djs do when dj'ing? im assuming just beatmatching one song into another would equate to a pretty boring set? or is that all it is? what makes a good dj?
any dj's who want to share tips / tricks ideas would be great, links to videos would be good as examples. please no negative comments i would like this thread to be a source of information to up and coming dj's (or novices like myself). cheers.

have a good INTRO... first impression has a lasting impression.. Pick your songs based on the event/occassion. Constantly keep track of how the audience responds. Here's a no brainer - maintain a flow when transitioning between tracks. Drastic bpm switches can be annoying. You dont want your audience to break out of the trance that you put them in the first place. Scratch but dont over do it
