I was browsing youtube, and came across a video of gop virks called watching you and in the video i noticed at around 1.35 he has a tattoo of shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji which he flaunts proudly. However this is gop virk, a rapper who raps about drinking, checking out women, which can be argued as being promoting this kind of lifestyle while what can be described as showing off this tattoo. Is this acceptable? Personally i strongly agree that this is unacceptable and he comes across as someone who has got that tattoo as a fashion statement and by him pracing around and argue what is 'promoting' certain lifestyles is certainly non-Sikhi like and is disrespecting Baba Deep Singh who was a deeply religious man. Tatttoo on show above for the track 'Ik Pegg

I agree with most of the things said by chirp - Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji is one of the most recognized shaheed's in Sikhi a deeply religious man who grew up around the time of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
This thread has highlighted an important issue about who people like gop are using religion as a fashion statement and rather than honouring and valuing they are completely ignoring the religious value for what men like Baba Deep Singh Ji stood for and are completely going the other way.
muisc media outlets need to take action and stop getting individuals making Sikhi look bad - you had notorious jatt's song 'Khanda' first, which was put up by every website, miss pooja's track, and now you got this twat.

Thats the thing though, there's so many faults in today's society that what Sikhi is meant to stand for doesn't apply anymore. I mean there are people proper amrit dari sikhs who follow the religion how it is supossed to be followed and they are keeping Sikhi alive.
But personally, I think if you want to do whatever you want and not obide by the rules of Sikhi then you might aswell become an athiest or the very least stop claiming that your Sikh when your not. I know this is an extreme view but take this into account, so a person who calls themselves Sikh, should continue taking drugs and alcohol or whatever they are doing which does not follow Sikhi?
I know i'm gonna be scrutinised for having Jatt in my username but for the respect I have for Sikhi, I know I can not call myself a proper Sikh and because of this, I don't think of myself as a Sikh.
This might be shocking to you, but whats shocking is this situation. I think we have let ourselves down more than anything, we have let our identity slip. I am not going to lie because I know tomorrow i'll be eating meat or drinking alcohol so I want to keep atleast that much dignity in myself. In saying that though, I do wish one day I stop this but in the meantime I'm keeping myself seperate from Sikhi.

The thing is even Amritdhari Sikhs aren't keeping the faith alive as it should be, i can give numerous examples just at local gurudwarae. I mean even in history, someone like Maharaja Ranjeet Singh can be called a great Sikh but we all seem to conveniently forget his many concubines and his keeping of Hindu customs.
When it comes down to your name "Munda Jattan Da", personally i believe thats theres no harm in declaring your caste its differentiating on it that makes the caste system wrong. The problem with Punjabi culture is the inability to differentiate between culture and religion.

I agree with some of your points, the youth need to be educated and a Young Sikh would be ideal to teach young Sikhs. Sikh faith needs to be restored in the youth. However the role models are not ideal now a days, all those gangsters, the media dont help either. Or the fact that the club promoters probe on young ppl etc. Theres so many issues now a days.

How can we blame Gop Virk, when even those who run our gurdwaray are not practicing sikhi as it should be. There have been two brawls in gurdwaras in Toronto in the past month, where kirpans are being used to stab others resulting in presidents of two seperate gurdwareh being thrown in jail along with one individual being held on attempted murder charges. The problem has become way more serious then tattoos.

The thing is though, even having tattoos is controversial. I do not think Sikhs are supposed to have tattoos. But i'm not 100% certain on this, all I can argue to back my argument is that if your body is supposed to be pure and how god designed it for you, you should not alter it in any way, this includes cutting hair, piercing, tattoos – but this is my understanding and I’m not 100% like I said.
I will say this, the amrit dari's i've come across and known personally, I know for 100% fact they are true to Sikhi and they are strictly disciplined. I know there are some who probably can’t resist the temptation to break away from their oath but I personally think you know when you are ready to become amrit dari and these temptations would not get to you. I’ve seen first hand examples and that’s why I am so certain about this.
I have heard of violence in Gurdwara’s and I think seriously, all Sikhs who go to the gurdwara need to tell these fools what exactly they are doing because kirpan is for last resort and for self defence. As Sikhs who are responsible for the Gurdware, I am shocked that such a thing can happen because this is not Sikhi, these idiots are giving the true meaning of Sikhi a bad name.
I will say this, I know where I’ve gone wrong, there are situations when I find its difficult on people who try not to eat meat for example but when its put in front of them, they are kinda forced into eating it. Its same as alcohol. But if only when we say to ourselves no, will we ever stop. Sikhi is not only a religion, it’s a way of life and I think seriously for what Sikhi stands for, we should never forget it or dishonour it.
I have been thinking deeply about what I said last time, I might have come across very extreme but the thing I was trying to say is this, Sikhi is about truth, and if your not truth to yourself then where do you stand in Sikhi? That only you can answer.
