Leicester Belgrave Mela’s ‘Celebration of Culture’ returns to rock City Centre on Sunday!
Leicester Belgrave Mela is proud to present the second annual ‘Celebration Culture’ Festival – a colourful mix of live music, dance, fashion, exotic foods, ethnic arts and crafts, community performances, entertainment and cultural activities.
The unique, outdoor, one-day spectacular takes place in Leicester City Centre on Sunday 16th September 2007 (11am – 6pm) and aims to bring the communities of Leicester together in a day of celebrating Asian lifestyles.
One of the largest Asian events in the country and attracting thousands of visitors each year, the festival reflects the diverse cultural influences within the local community through the arts, music and cuisine.
In 2006, for the first time ever, an Asia event such as this was held in the town centre. Last year’s event attracted over 15,000 people throughout the day and boasted an array of international celebrities including MOBO Award Winner Raghav and Bhangra DJs the Kray Twins
This year’s line up is even better, with exclusive performances from the Panjabi Hit Squad (BBC’s1Xtra), Ms Scandalous and the Sona Family (performing their worldwide smash hit ‘Glassy’).
The 2007 festival is bigger and better and will be divided into three key areas:
· Firstly, an Entertainment Stage, located at the end of Humberstone Gate, which will host performances from Sony Entertainment Television, the Sabras Radio Roadshow, The Asian Rain Fashion Show, local / community artists and much more;
· Secondly, a spectacular ‘Mela Bazaar’ in Leicester Market boasting a huge variety of stalls including: Food Court, Wedding Exhibition, Art, Jewellery, Information and many more;
· And finally, new for 2007, the event will be expanding in to Town Hall Square which will be home to the 2FunkyArts Music Zone.
